Summary of Sheep History
The current Sheep team is a combination of two original coed broomball teams formed in 1996: Inflatable Party Sheep and Deloitte & Touche Brutality. Although there were some players who were on both teams, these two teams existed separately up until 2000 when they merged and went by the Inflatable Party Sheep.
2008: The Sheep moved to the A level this year and the competition was definitely a challenge. We had tough showings at the state outdoor and indoor tournament. We ended up placing 3rd at the National tournament in Fargo. But we still partied like Sheep! We are also planning on traveling to DC for a fun tournament with the Megatherium team.
2006: Can you believe we've been playing as the Sheep for over 10 years!
2005: This was an excellent year to be a Sheep. We won the outdoor league at Bryn Mawr. This was notable because we beat SIECO twice during our season. We never got to play SIECO at Winter Carnival and they ended up winning the C division. The Sheep also won the 8 on 8 Mpls outdoor A level tournament for the first time. This was a long time coming. We lost to only two teams at the Winter Carnival: Meerkats and Liberty Bail. But we defeated both of those teams at the C level State Tournament and took the Championship for the first time! The Sheep returned to Colorado for the 6th straight year. We lost to both of the other two Minnesota teams: Summit and Bootleggers by one goal each. Those two teams met in the final and Summit won 5-0. The Sheep's total record was 17-4-2 and we outscored our opponents 4 to 1 on the year. PARTY PARTY SHEEP!!!!!!!!!!
2004: The Sheep moved back to the Minneapolis' first 6 on 6 coed league. The league was young and the Sheep were undefeated winning all 5 games and claiming their third straight 1st place regular season trophy. The Sheep entered the 8 on 8 Minneapolis playoffs in the A bracket and got a first round bye. They won the first two games and made it to the semi final against Summit. The Sheep pulled their goalie with 3 minutes left down by 2 goals and managed to score one, but that wasn't enough. The Sheep finished second in the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, the best finish ever in a state tournament. In the MN State C tourney in Chaska, the Sheep lost a 1 goal game in the semifinal to a good team that went on to win the championship. This year, team Summit attended the Colorado Springs tournament. They proved to be just one step ahead of Sheep and they won the final game 1-0 despite the flock's best efforts to Party Party with the opponent's best player on Saturday night at the bar.
2003. The Sheep moved to Hopkins for their regular outdoor league and won all 7 regular season games, scored more than twice the total goals (62) of any other regular season and took home the first place trophy. The first place finish paid for a state tournament entry in Burnsville where the Sheep went 1-2 and took 3rd place out of 4 teams. The Sheep entered the Saint Paul Winter Carnival tournament for the first time and took 3rd place out of 10 teams. They lost to Cory's Clowns in the semi final game and lost to the Lot Sots (the champions) by only one goal in pool play. The C state tourney was held in Brainerd and the Sheep had a dismal performance on the rink losing all three games by one goal. But they bounced back in the Colorado Springs tournament and made it to the championship game against a very good Team Brick who had 5 elite players on the roster. The Sheep lost in OT, but gave the defending champs a run for their money! Megan Ogdahl took home the coed MVP, Al Chapman won the "Nice Guy" award and Brian Leither was awarded the 2nd place Sheep trophy for his 5 goals in 4 games.
New jerseys in 2002! With the new threads, the Sheep took 1st place in their league and won the trophy going undefeated in their 5 regular season games. We suffered a disappointing loss in the A level playoffs to the Uptown Bar in a game in which we dominated the ball control. The Sheep played well against a few teams at Breck including players from the Flames and Terminal Frost. We went 2-1 at the C level MN state tournament. We took third place at Colorado Springs going 2-1 and almost making it to the final game despite the fact that the men were dead tired from playing 4 other games earlier the same day.
In 2001 the Sheep took 2nd place again to Jimmy's NE and went 3-1 in the regular season. We lost our first A level playoff game to Mannings. We made the mistake of entering the B level MN state tournament (rather than C level) and lost all three games. The Sheep won the Cabble tournament in Cold Spring going 4-1. The Sheep went to Colorado Springs again but got a poor seed and ended up only getting to play two games. We tied one and lost one, but got a win for our bye and didn't advance out of pool play.
The two teams combined in 2000 and kept the Inflatable Party Sheep name. The Sheep went 4-1 in the regular season and took second place to Jimmy's NE but we lost our first playoff game to Dusty's in the A level playoffs. We entered the C level MN state tournament and placed 3rd. We lost to the Kamakazies 2-6 in the semi final game and they went ahead to beat Babes in the championship. The Sheep also traveled to Colorado Springs for the first time to compete in the Make-A-Wish tournament. They lost 2-4 in overtime in the championship game to team Shack.
Both the Sheep and Brutality were undefeated in their league in 1999 and both won their league trophies with an amazing total 56-5 goal differential! The Sheep were 5-0 and Brutality was 4-0-1 with the heated game that was called a tie at the half against Ron's Auto out on Lake Nokomis. The playoffs were canceled in 1999 due to warm weather. This was the first year of an organized scrimmage at Breck against another team: the Lemmings. We had a hard time adjusting to the indoor ball and only scored 1 goal total for the two scrimmages. We didn't enter the state tournament this year.
In 1998 the Sheep went 4-2 and Brutality went 3-2-1. The Sheep won their first league trophy going 4-1 and lost their only game by forfeit. Brutality took second in their league to Ron's Auto. Both teams entered the A level playoffs for the first time and each team lost their first game. A combination of people played in the C level MN state tournament again. The team lost 3 games 0-5, 3-9 and 1-9.
In 1997, Brutality went 2-4 and the Sheep saw significant improvement and won the B level Mpls outdoor playoffs and posted a 6-2 record. A combination of players formed a team and entered the C level MN state tournament and lost decidedly in two games 1-5 and 1-4. This was the year of the famed visit to the small bar in Prior Lake with the Bahama Mammas and the great juke box.
1996 was the first year for both of the teams and was also the first year that the majority of the players had ever heard of broomball. Very few of the players had broomball shoes and although the games were a bit unorganized, they were still a ton of fun. In the regular season, the Sheep went 3-2 but two of their wins were by forfeit and Brutality went 1-3-1. The Sheep lost their first B level playoff game and Brutality lost their second.
