5/2 Aquila 5 6:00 at PT Dogs L 12-13

Jodi out, Ed for Klubber, Dan for Scott

Formally PT Bar None.  Not as annoying as last year.  One tall guys hits to right field everything else to left and left center.  They like to walk.  The Sheep had a one inning meltdown where we gave them 6 runs but overall, it was a close game that we almost won in the bottom of the 7th.
5/9 Aquila 2 7:15 at Dilligaf L 10-13

Jodi, Mary, Klubber out. Lori for Karleen,

Schnauze for Scott,

Kelly for Cari Jo

Happy Birthday Jessi and Jodi!  We were fighting back the whole game and only played with 10 people.  The wind was blowing in but they were still hitting the long ball to right and right center. At least the women on the other team didn't walk when the guys did.  Our outfield had a tough time for 3 innings when we played with only 9 players.  Dilligaf picked up a new short stop who turned a number of double plays.
5/16 Aquila 5 6:00 Bullwinkles L 7-14 Jodi out, Elissa for Tracy, Marv for Brian This was a tough game.  We got an early start by scoring 6 in the first inning but then we went cold.  We got one more in the 7th, but Bullwinkles was able to get 14.  Very few walks in the game.  Their guys all looked the same - some could hit deep and one hit to right field.  They had a woman playing short-stop.  This team was definitely beatable  - we just need to hit better.
5/23 Aquila 2 7:15 at PT Evergreen L 1-16 Karleen out, Marv for Brian We played a good defensive game but we couldn't hit the ball.  4 hits total and they didn't have any errors.  Mary only walked 2 guys.  Their 3B hits to LF and their biggest guy hits to RF.  Nothing very deep - mostly line drives.  Their weak link was RC - poor range and arm.  1B tries to walk every time.

Game at 6

Decision 1 Mortgage W 16-13 Ricardo for Klubber, Mike for Chaffee, Ed for Brian Their women couldn't hit the ball very well,  their infield made 5 errors and their outfield didn't have much range.  3B was quick and hit deep to the LF line.  The game was closer than it should have been because of a 10 run 6th inning they had (5 walked in and 5 hits).  But we scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th and shut them down 1, 2, 3 in the top of the 7th to clinch our first win!  Sheep bat 476 as a team.
6/6 Aquila 1

Game at 6:10

PT Dogs W 12-10   Very close game where the lead changed hands 4 times.  Tied in the 5th and we got 3 in the 6th and played good defense to win.  Their pitcher Steve hits to RF every time and can hit deep.  Number 1 also hits deep to RF.  Wind was blowing out to RF and there was a lot of action there for both team, but they had their worst fielder in RF.  They didn't walk as much this time.
6/13 Aquila 5 7:15 Dilligaf W 15-14 Mary out no sub needed, Elissa for Kelly, Alisa for Jodi We hit the ball well this game and they didn't walk many although they tried. SS lefty hit high fly balls every time - 1 HR.
6/20 Aquila 3 9:25 at Bullwinkles W 22-11 Cathy for Tracy, Marv for Brian We won the game at the plate. We had a few errors and gave them some runs, but in the end we hit the ball hard and had a great team batting average of 536. They had 5 defensive errors
6/27 Dakota East

Game at 6:10

PT Evergreen L 11-15   The Sheep didn't give up.  We were close to being 10-runned in the 6th inning, but we ended up making it a 4 run game.  All their women but the catcher hit the ball hard to the left side.  Their RF guy with the goatee hits to the LF line.  Their captain 3B places the ball when he hits, but not deep.  LF jock likes to hit to RF with the first pitch.
7/11 Aquila 1 7:15 at Decision 1 Mortgage W 14-4 Marv for Klubber We played a very clean game defensively and didn't give them any bases on error.  We hit 542 as a team and drove in at least 2 runs every inning.  Their pitcher and 3b were the only guys that could hit the ball long and they hit it to the fence almost every time.  The rest of their team couldn't hit the ball.  They had VERY poor relay throws.
7/18 Aquila 3 8:20 PT Dogs W 8-5 Lori Hall for Claude A great defensive game, each team made only 3 errors.  They got 2 walks and we got 3. They pitched a lot of low and inside pitches.  They hit most of their balls to LF or right up the middle. The Mexican guy hits right up the middle, the really big guy SS hits to LF. They didn't hit much to RF and didn't hit anything deep.  We had 12 hits - all singles and we turned two double plays.  All  their men can place the ball when they hit.
7/25 Aquila 1 8:20 at Dilligaf W 17-9 Elissa for Claude Solid final game of the year to clinch 2nd place in the league.  We had 22 hits and 17 runs.  Their SS didn't make the game. Their biggest guy hits deep to LF and LCF. Their LF, quick short guy likes to hit to center field and likes to throw people out at 3B on forces.

Sheep Plays of the Week

July 25:

Neil and Elissa Chaffee for going 5 for 8 and playing two great defensive games.

July 18:

Two double plays: Brian to Jodi in the infield and Matt to Jessi from the outfield.

Lori's sharp eye at the plate got her two free passes.

Kelly, Rich, Matt and Brian each went 2 for 3 on the night.

July 11:

Jodi's triple in the 3rd inning into the gap in left center field.

Claude's stellar plays covering second base for multiple outs.

Brian's line drive catch and tag out double-play AND his reading the advice column to know he can tag on a caught foul ball.  :)

June 27:

Klubber's 2 run over-the-fence homer in the 6th inning to keep the Sheep in the game and allow us to come back and make it close.

Karleen's double over the left fielder's head.  She burned him.

June 20:

Double play ball from Karleen (1) to Rich (6) to Jessi (3) and Karleen for only walking one person all night.

June 13:

Neil Kulevsky's over-the-fence grand slam in the 3rd inning to help the Sheep win a one-run game against Dilligaf.

June 6:

Scott Dahl with his hot glove in the 6th inning.  It was a critical tie-game inning and Scott's two catches in left field helped shut down the opponent.

Rich Kofski for going 3 for 3 with a double, 2 opposite field home runs and 3 runs batted in.

May 30:

Mike Lindquist for his heroics at 3rd base.  A hot grounder hit him in the chin on the first play of the game.  Then it got worse.  He managed to block a ball with his knee cap and another one with his shin - and both times he made the force out at 3rd base.  He took a one-hopper off the toe and suffered a bloody nose when someone slid into 3rd late in the game.  But he hung in there and helped the Sheep get their first win of the year!

The Baker 7th inning.  Mary with two throws to 1st base and Ed snagged a fly ball deep in left field.  1, 2, 3 and the Sheep win!

May 23:

Mary for only walking 2 guys against PT Evergreen.

Klubber's running catch behind second base.  Look at that range!

May 16:

Mary when she snagged that screaming line drive in left-center field!

A close second was Karleen for not giving up a single walk all night!

May 9:

Hands down it goes to Rich for the slide.  I know he was out, but hey team, he slid!

A close second was Tracy catching the moon ball in deep right center.  Nice grab!

Brent Chaffee running off with the team mascot:

Recently the Shepherd has been threatened with legal action concerning misrepresentation in the previous image.  Please note that the image is in no way meant to be an accurate representation of Brent Chaffee or the team mascot.  Obviously Brent doesn't wear headbands and the mascot was not happy and smiling when she was abducted.  The image is only meant to symbolize the fact that Brent DID run off with the mascot.

This is Brent Chaffee running after the Shepherd to try and serve him a lawsuit for misrepresentation of the previous cartoon image.  Notice how Brent can't seem to catch up even though the Shepherd is in full business attire AND carrying a bulky briefcase.  ALSO NOTICE that strange running figure out in the front...

July 11 marked the date of the official Foot Race Gala.  The Shepherd prevailed in the best of three, but a new overall champion arose from the crowd to beat both of the competitors.  His name was Neil "Speedser" Chaffee and he is leading the race in the above picture.

Arm wrestling was also on the agenda and both Brent and Matt had been practicing in the off season, Brent with his weights and Matt with his bow.  They split the contests with Brent getting the left hand and Matt getting the right.
